After this whole affair the machine is indeed very quiet, so much so
that the old S12 power supply was the dominant noise source,
especially when the machine was under load and it was working at
almost the limit of its capacity. After reading the SPCR raving
reviews about the Enermax
Modu82+ 625 power supply, I decided to go for an upgrade. It is
indeed very quiet, the fan spins at 400-500 rpm at low power and even
when the machine is maxed out in never gets above 1000 rpm, so now the
hard drives are (again) the dominant noise source...
