In what has now become a tradition, the astro grads go up to Lick Observatory for an annual retreat on Mount Hamilton. Usually this means a weekend of chilling out by the pool, hiking the wild trails around the mountain, doing some casual stargazing (we had access to the 40 inch Nickel telescope), playing pool and generally being lazy. This year, the retreat was just as the UCSC school year started to also make it a "welcome the new grad students" event.
