In September, after I had finished my Ph.D. thesis and recharged a little, Greg Novak and I went for a week-long backpack in Sequoia NP. This was my first backpack in the Sierra Nevada, and it was pretty awesome. It was also pretty hard -- thesis writing does not seem to improve your fitness and the high altitude and lots of elevation change sort of kicked my ass... ;-) We started in Mineral King, hiked out the Franklin Pass, up to Little Five Lakes (where we had a nice rest day) and then back over Black Rock Pass.
