Since I got my first SLR camera in 1992, I've enjoyed taking pictures,
mostly of natural scenery, radiation transfer effects in the
atmosphere (i.e. sunrise... ;-) and night shots. I made the transition
to digital in 2003, currently I'm using a Canon EOS 40D with two
lenses: a 17-55 f/2.8 EF-S wide-angle zoom and a 70-200 f/4 L
telephoto zoom.
One particular interest is to make large panoramas stitched together
from many images. I originally wrote my own piece of software for
doing the stitching, but now I'm using the much more capable and
user-friendly
Panorama
Tools Assembler.
I also have been experimenting with High Dynamic Range (HDR)
photography using
Photomatix Pro,
which makes it possible to bring out the detail in scenes with very
large exposure ranges and generate an image that looks more "how it
looked in reality". The panorama of Monterey Bay across the top of the
page was made with these tools.
Ever since I started taking digital images, I've had a home-rolled
photo album on my web page. Basically, I'd like to design my photo
album to work the way I want it, but there is also another concern:
Captioning all these images is
a lot of work, and I don't
want to get my data stuck on some proprietary computer that may shut
down at any minute. Call me paranoid, but I don't really like to be at
the mercy of some unknown entity. So here it
is:
